  • Leg 2: $10 x $2.00 = $20
  • Total Spend = $20
  • Total Return = $35
  • Total Profit = $15

Multi Bet: If you took a $20 Multi across Leg 1 and Leg 2, this would have a potential return of $60

  • Leg 1 ($1.50) x Leg 2 ($2.00) = $3
  • $20 x $3 = $60
  • Total Spend = $20
  • Total Return = $60
  • Total Profit = $40
Bet Types Racing - How does a Roving Banker Trifecta work?

Example:

Single Runner Roving Banker:

  • Other Runners = Runners 2-3-4-5-6

Three Bets placed are:

  • 1 : 2-3-4-5-6 : 2-3-4-5-6

Bet Types Racing - Poker Rules

Bet types

Win, Place and Quinella are the only bet types available for a Poker Bet.

Races must be at least 15 minutes apart

In order to ensure that your dividend from one race is correctly re-invested on your next race, all races in your Poker bet must be scheduled to run at least 15 minutes apart. This should not be a factor for New Zealand races but for some overseas meetings, (especially those that encompass more than one racetrack) do have races scheduled closer than 15 minutes.

Scratchings or Abandoned Races

Any refund due to a Scratching or Race Abandonment will be re-invested in the same manner as a dividend.

Re-investment does not occur e.g due to an enquiry

Re-investment can not occur until a result is confirmed and dividends paid.  Where an enquiry or other delay prevents dividends from being paid, then re-investment on the following race(s) may not occur.  When the result is finally confirmed and dividends paid then re-investment will skip any closed races, and continue on to any remaining races that are still open for betting.

Payment of Dividends and Refunds in respect of Poker bets

Any Dividend or Refund on Poker bets will not be available for payment until either an Order for Payment is received or an order for abandonment has been made for all Races in the Poker bet.

Bet Types Racing - What are Will Pay dividends?

Will Pay dividends are used to help determine what your payout might be for a multi-leg bet type such as a Double, Treble, Quaddie, Pick6 or Place6.

Bet Types Racing - What is better, All-Up or Poker?

It can be a tough choice – whether to go “all or nothing” with an All-Up bet, or whether to spread the risk with a Poker Bet.  The best way to decide is to consider the likely odds of your selections.

All Up bets are more commonly placed when including favourites, while a Poker Bet is more suitable when one or more of the selections are paying a significant price.

Bet Types Racing - What is Percentage Betting

It’s simple – you pay a percentage of the price of a Trifecta, First4, Treble, Quaddie, Pick6 or Boxed Multi in return for a percentage of the dividend.

Instead of betting in $1 or .50 cent units, you can bet any amount you $1 (provided the minimum bet unit is 5%).  To place a percentage bet use either the total stake or the stake per combo box. Using the total stake allows you to set how much you wish to spend, the stake per combo will update to the minimum stake per combo, and the “min %” will update to show what your minimum percentage would be based on your combinations.

Bet Types Racing - What is the difference between Fixed Odds (Final Field) and Fixed Odds (Futures)?

A Fixed Odds (Final Field) bet is only available after the field is declared. A Fixed Odds (Futures Win) bet is based on nominations for a future feature race. This bet type is ‘All-In’ and, as such, you do not receive a refund for a scratching or withdrawal.

Bet Types Racing - When am I eligible for a refund on a Futures Bet?

Futures are an ‘all in’ event. This means that if your runner does not take part in the race you are not eligible for a refund. This is notified with the wording ‘No refunds’ listed on the betting slip when placing the bet.

Bet Types Racing - When are Will Pay dividends available?

You are able to view the 'Will Pay' dividends for any available bet prior to the running of the last leg and after the penultimate leg of the pool has been confirmed.

Bet Types Racing - Where can I find Will Pay dividends?

Betting General - What happens if one of the legs in my Multi is cancelled?

If one or more legs are cancelled, your Multi is still live. The Multi is simply recalculated without the missing legs.

How to Bet - Why can I change my multi-leg bet type if there is a scratching in a TAB, but not online?

The difference in rules reflects the nature of the betting channels. It is easier for customers to bet closer to start time through online and Touchtone channels.

How to Bet - Why can online bets not be cancelled if there is an error, but you can cancel a bet at a TAB after noticing an error?

The difference in rules reflects the nature of the betting channels. In TABs the customer relies on an operator to place their bet. The online betslip also has the names of runners next to all selections meaning that there is less likely to be any customer errors. Further, online betting also allows the customer to see a submit bet screen before clicking confirm bet.

How to Bet - Why is there a cancellation rule?

Preventing late cancellation of Tote bets will help us to give customers a more accurate indication of actual pool size and runner dividends at all stages of the betting process.

Fixed Odds bets allow you to lock in the odds that you select. The odds can shorten to a lower price or drift to a higher price. A shorter timeframe applies to ensure bets can only be cancelled for operator or customer errors only.

The TAB allows a grace period of 120 days, allowing customers to deposit funds and bet during this period. However, a customer must verify their identity to both withdraw any funds and continue betting after this period.

Online ID Verification - Can I leave the IDV process part way through and continue later?

No. If you leave the online IDV process part way through by way of closing the browser window or logging out, then you end the process immediately. If you return to the page later, you will need to start from the beginning. This protects your data.

Online ID Verification - Can I still head into a TAB store or post my ID documents to you?

Yes. You’ll need to complete an ID form available from a TAB store or from the My TAB section of tab.co.nz.

Online ID Verification - How do I complete Online ID Verification?

Simply visit tab.co.nz, you will be prompted to IDV in your Account and in the primary navigation next to your balance. Select to verify and follow the steps requiring you to take pictures of your Passport or NZ Driver licence using your webcam, and you’re on your way to verifying your identity with us.

Online ID Verification - Why did I receive and email saying that process could not be completed?

This could have been due to incomplete documentation (part of the document was not readable, the wrong part of the document was photographed, or there was information missing from the document), the images were not clear enough, or because your ID document had expired.

Make sure that your photos are well lit, in focus, do not have glare on them and are of a current NZ driver's licence or passport. If you have any questions, please contact TAB Customer Services on 0800 102 106 or email [email protected] or [email protected].

Online ID Verification - Why does it take up to 5 working days to process?

This is because the checks by TAB staff are completed manually. In many cases it will take less than 5 working days for the account to be verified.

Online ID Verification - Why was I asked to go into a TAB store instead?

Although we’re confident that our online process is robust, from time to time we may require human intervention to provide us with the added confidence we require. This is to ensure that we’re protecting our customers as best we can and adhering to our legal requirements.

If one of your picks is scratched (withdrawn) from a Double, Treble or Quaddie race, your bet will be transferred to the Sub (substitute) for that race.  The Sub is the runner with the most money bet to win on it, another name for the Sub is the Tote favourite. If you already have the Sub on your ticket, then you can win the dividend multiple times.

Racing - What happens if I take a Futures bet and my runner doesn’t start the race?

Futures events are classified as ‘all in’ markets. This means that if your runner does not take part in the race, your bet is not eligible for a refund. This is notified with the wording ‘No refunds’ listed on the betting slip on tab.co.nz and the race lists in store.

Racing - What happens to the Pick6 pool if there are no winning units?

If there are no units of betting that have selected the winner in all six legs of the Pick6. For a Terminating Pick6 the first prize pool shall be distributed equally amongst those units of betting that have selected the Winners in the greatest number of such races.

Racing - What is a dead heat and how does it affect my bet?

For single Fixed Odds bets, in the event of a dead heat, half of the dividend will be paid.

In particular bets involving pools, the rule enforced depends on the bet type. Here is how the dead heat applies to the following bet types:

Double: Should there be a dead heat for 1st in either leg, or a dead heat for 2nd in the second leg, Double dividends will be declared for all runners involved in the dead heat(s) - these dividends are likely to be less than what they would have been without the dead heat(s).

Trifecta: Should there be a dead heat for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in a race, Trifecta dividends will be declared for each valid permutation of 1st, 2nd and 3rd - these dividends will be half of what they would have been without the dead heat.

First4: Should there be a dead heat for 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th place in a race, First4 dividends will be declared for each valid permutation of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th - these dividends will be half of what they would have been without the dead heat.

Quaddie: Should there be a dead heat for 1st in any Quaddie race, Quaddie dividends will be declared for all runners involved in the dead heat(s) - these dividends will be less than what they would have been without the dead heat(s).

Pick6: Should there be a dead heat for 1st in any Pick6 race, then both runners involved in the dead heat will be winners but only one Pick6 dividend will be declared, hence Pick6 winners with either runner involved in the dead heat will share in the SAME Pick6 dividend.

Racing - What is the difference between Final Field (FF) and Tote odds?

Final Field (FF) odds are a fixed odds betting option. This means that you get the odds (barring any deductions) that were taken when the bet was submitted.

All the money collected from Tote bets go into a pool with a dividend paid out to the winning selections. The Tote Odds displayed are an estimate only and can fluctuate up until the race start as money continues to enter the pool.

Racing - Why is my place bet not a winner when the horse finished third?

Places are paid depending on the number or horses that start the race. If there are 8 or more starters, a place dividend will be paid for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If there are 5-7 starters, a place dividend will be paid for 1st and 2nd. If there are less than 5 starters, there will be no place dividend paid.
